Do you know how 5 grams of plastic look like? They are like a credit card ....... that each of us eats, drinks, or breathes every week.
Where does the plastic we see every day end up? In the sea. In the atmosphere at high altitudes. In the North and South Pole. On the top of the highest mountains. Anywhere else you can think of, animals, plants and inside our bodies.
What kind of plastic does enter our body? All the polymers we use every day: disposable containers (glasses, dishes, plates, food packaging, detergent/soap bottles), tires that disintegrate on the asphalt, synthetic material in the fabrics (clothes, blankets, tablecloths, upholstery), plastic contained in cosmetics, urban furniture made of plastics (benches, etc), all the other plastics you can think of.
What can we do about it? Remove plastic from our daily life. And measure how much plastic we have already released into the environment so that we can see if and how it decreases when we stop using it.
MicroMar is a project that brings together scientists and citizens that usually do not deal with science to measure the plastic in our seas.
